About us
Learning a language is child's play

We are a services provider for children`s language tuition and other language learning needs. Our core services are language courses for children from the age of 4-14. Our add-on services are the services of Lingo Nannies*. In today`s global society it is important for children to learn a second or even a third language to access more opportunities in life and be accepting of other cultures. Here at home [South Africa] we believe there are three communication needs for children;
- firstly is the need for black children to be equipped with the vital English language skills to communicate socially and to excel academically
- secondly is the need for all South African children to speak an indigenous language in order to participate fully as members of our multilingual society
- lastly is the need to learn a foreign language to access more opportunities globally for career and travel.
We offer English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Sepedi, Sotho, isiZulu and isiXhosa. The English course is an English Enrichment programme purposely designed for children learning English as an additional language in township schools.
The purpose of our services is to prepare children for the multilingual world through first class language learning programmes. Lessons are offered on Saturday mornings, after school, during school holidays and private tuition.
Language Programmes
- English Enrichment Programme
|
It is important for parents to know that English is no longer just a school subject, it is a life skill. The English Enrichment Programme is specially designed for second language speakers who attend township schools and need more language input and practice to master the English language. Language is the foundation on which all learning takes place, and thus the teaching and learning of English as an additional language here in South Africa is fundamental for academic and career success. We design the English Enrichment Programme with this fact in mind. The programme is for children from the age of 4 to 14 years. The programme does not contradict normal school curriculum and in many ways supports and builds on the work of school teachers by providing more language input and opportunities for practice through fun educational activities. Courses are offered at selected schools in Alexandra and Tembisa Townships. Contact us for more information and for a host school in your area. |
2. Other Languages
|
Language on offer are; French, Portuguese, Sepedi, Sesotho, Spanish and isiZulu Prepare your child for the multilingual world because today, in local and global society it is important to speak a second and in other cases a third language to access more opportunities in life. In our local context it is important to speak one indigenous language and English. In addition if children want to travel or advance their career internationally they have to speak a foreign language. Children younger than fourteen years learn additional languages with ease. This is one of the major reason it is important to start the process of learning an additional language as early as possible in a child`s development. Courses are offered in selected schools in Rosebank. Contact us for more information. |
Lingo Nannies
Lingo Nannies are childminders specially trained to facilitate the process of language learning for very young children in addition to providing basic care.
In South Africa most of our child minders or nannies are black people to white families and speak other South African languages as their mother tongue other than English. Childminders are well positioned to introduce a second language to our children. Nannies are primary caregivers for our children and spend most the day caring and helping our little ones discover the world. This is a natural learning process and is a perfect setting for children to acquire or learn a language
A Language Nanny is a childminder whose main responsibility is to help a child to learn an additional by speaking to the child in the target language and facilitating the learning process. Language Nannies are recommended for children from 12 months to 4 years. Language/Lingo Nannies Lingo Nannies are available in South African languages only and are mother tongue speakers of isi Zulu, Sotho, Sepedi, Setswana and isiXhosa.
We train your own nanny or connect you with Lingo nannies in our database. We facilitate the interviews but the family makes the final appointment of a Lingo Nanny.
Course Structure
There are 4 learning stages for each age group to complete the whole programme. Each learning stage runs for 12 weeks. The learning stages are only guidelines of a child`s level of proficiency but fluency depends on practice and actual opportunities a child has to speak the language in real life situations.

Teaching Approach – Communicative Approach
- We have a unique teaching methodology, a communicative approach coupled with a combination of other language teaching strategies to facilitate additional language learning.
- Children can use the language in real life
- Vocabulary and grammar are taught in context
- Children are fully immersed in the target language during lessons
Jambo Toto teachers are qualified, experienced and specially trained language teachers for young children. We teach language from a communicative perspective. The methodology encourages children to do as many things as possible in the language in a fun and interactive manner thus building their communication skills in the language as early as possible.
